PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
*Practices will be run with heavy body contact as would be appropriate for 12U+, Body checking may be included by the coach if appropriate based on the participants
Practice sessions will be led by Mike Nelson ("Coach Grizz"). Coach has an extensive background in the hockey community dating back to his playing days as a AA youth player in Kentucky through his most recent experiences as a coach of the 14U Midstate Mustangs and the 16U Keystone Wild. In addition, he has contributed to the growth of the game as a high-level official for 15 years. Coach Grizz is excited to bring his passion and enthusiasm for the game to the next generation. He believes that skill development happens at different speeds for all players and age levels, and that it's necessary to identify the small details required to help players improve and eventually master a skill. When coaching, above all else, his goal is to maintain a fun environment while instilling a level of challenge that results in improvement and growth. Coach Grizz believes that confident skating is the most important individual skill a player can master and will utilize drills to encourage players to reach outside their comfort zone and maximize the growth of skating skills. Building on individual skills, chemistry and cohesion among teammates will be cultivated as they are paramount characteristics to advanced team concepts. Coach Grizz will demand that players arrive at practice ready to be coached with a willingness to attempt whatever is asked of them without worry or fear of the outcome. He believes that failure is necessary to succeed. You'll hear him remind players that "we've all missed, and will again, don't let it ruin your day!"
