Tryouts will be conducted at Galactic Ice in Altoona this Sunday August 9th.

Attached below are the rink guidelines and COVID waiver which every participant will need to sign and return when you arrive for tryouts.

Tryout Group Assignments are as Follows:


8:00am-9:20am (10U Group A) – Players Last Name A-L

9:30am-10:50am (10U Group B) – Players Last Name M-Z


11:00-12:20pm (12U Girls) - All

12:30-1:50pm (12U Group A) – Players Last Name A-L

2:00-3:20pm (12U Group B) – Players Last Name M-Z


3:30-4:50pm (14U Coed & 14U Girls) – All

Tryout Packets

To lessen person-to-person contact, we will have tryout packets pre-packaged and available for pickup beginning Wednesday, 8/5 at 5pm. The location address is:

367 Scotia Rd

Port Matilda, PA 16870

These packets will be hanging on a rack in the driveway arranged by age division and last name. Feel free to pick up packets for those players that live around you if you can.

Tryouts packets will include the following:

  • Player name displayed on outside of packet
  • Numbered Bib to be pinned to the back of the players jersey prior to arriving for tryouts.  Please attach numbered bib high on the back on the jersey and ensure it will not be pulled loose when the jersey is pulled tight over the player’s equipment.
  • Four safety pins for attaching numbered bib
  • Designated jersey color for player to wear during tryouts (Navy or white)
  • If your player does not have Navy or White, substitute the darkest or lightest jersey available.  Do not wear jerseys with names or identification on them!

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and UPMC Sports Medicine are once again teaming up to offer the Heads UP Pittsburgh program, an innovative concussion awareness and baseline testing initiative for young athletes throughout Western Pennsylvania.

USAH Helmet Questions COVID-19

Update from Pegula Ice Arena

UPDATE: All non-essential activities within Pegula Ice Arena, including all community programming, through Tuesday, June 30 have been cancelled. Customers who had pre-paid for programming or tickets for the annual figure skating show have been contacted via email in reference to their credit or refund. The University will continue to evaluate the current situation and will provide updates as they become available. Please direct any additional questions to Pegula Ice Arena Management Staff via



This season, SCYIHA is proudly partnering with Geisinger for the care of our home and visiting youth hockey players. Geisinger's certified, experienced athletic trainers will provide top-notch sports medicine diagnostics and treatment during all Icers home games at Penn State's Pegula Ice Arena. And thanks to Geisinger's generous contribution to our Association, our players have been outfitted with two practice jerseys each.
